Linden Labs disabling Avatar Tracker

Linden Labs yesterday announced that they would be disabling the LSL function used to detect the online status of avatars. No specific timeline was given for breaking the LSL function llRequestAgentData(), but it is expected in the next weeks or months. Avatar Tracker will cease to function as soon as the implementation is made. Avatar Tracker has been off the market since July of 2011.

Eclipse Avatar Tracker is no longer on the market.


Privacy is one of the most fundamental of human rights. It's so important, in fact, that even the perception of its violation warrants action. Avatar Tracker was never intended as a "spy" device. It gathers information that is available to you and to others freely through a scripted function provided by Linden Labs*. However, because it might be used for mischievous purposes, I am voluntarily taking it off the market.


I'd like to thank my loyal customers for making this product a success.


* The ability to detect online status is built in to LSL, the primary scripting language used in Second Life and every other OpenSim grid.

Eclipse Scriptworks Privacy Policy

Recently there has been a renewed interest in privacy in the Second Life forums. Apparently some companies are publicizing information they collect on avatars. Eclipse Scriptworks will never reveal information about your account to anyone, ever. The data collected by your Avatar Tracker is not shared with anyone, and is not archived on our system for longer than 180 days.
